How to Tie an Alberto Knot - the Best Leader Knot for Braid to Fluorocarbon by 1Rod1ReelFishing

Tips - Works best when the diameter (not lb test) of the leader (fluoro or mono), is thicker than the braid being used. When learning the knot, use 6-7 wraps up and down to ensure strength but decreasing to 4-5 wraps up and down is fine once you master it.

To help the knot pass through guides even easier, clip the leader (fluoro or mono) at an angle to create a "ramp" when the knot is passing through guides. This knot goes through micro guides too!

If using a leader that's thin compared to the mainline, be sure to tighten securely at this point (2:58), pull firmly instead of gently!

Do not use this knot when connecting mono to mono or fluoro to fluoro, as it will lose a lot of strength. I mainly use fluorocarbon leaders (mono for topwater if I'm not using straight braid) anywhere from 12 inches to 4 feet depending on the water clarity, the clearer the water, the longer the leader! A good rule of thumb is to use 1 foot of leader for 1 foot of visibility. I.e. if the water visibility is 2.5 feet, use a 30 inch leader.
